FAQ

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

With a phone call to Mom’s New Pad, we will do an assessment of you or your loved one’s care, social, and financial needs in locating safe, exceptional senior living. We help you determine your needs, wants and budget, and together we will select some appropriate communities to visit.

WHICH OF YOUR SERVICES ARE FREE?

The vast majority of assisted living and memory care communities pay us a referral fee upon move in. Therefore, these services are FREE to you! Many independent living establishments pay us as well, but not always. If you are looking for information for your future, you’ll find lots of information on this website, plus we give a full 1-hour consultation for free when we first meet! If Millie helps you buy or sell real estate by referring you to a great realtor, there is no cost to you! All other services are provide are billed at a reasonable consulting rate.

HOW DO YOU CONDUCT YOUR SERVICES?
We provide a complimentary consultation to discuss your needs and our services and pricing. We will set up a time for us to visit licensed senior communities that fit your preferences. We will help you process all the paperwork needed to move in. We’re with you every step of the way to make a potentially challenging transition as simple and easy as possible.
WHICH AREAS DO YOU SERVE?

For help directly from us, we serve Marin, Sonoma, Napa, San Francisco and Alameda counties in Northern California. In other areas of the U.S. we have referral partners for senior living and real estate.

DO WE HAVE TO MOVE TO A SENIOR LIVING ESTABLISHMENT TO BENEFIT FROM YOUR SERVICES?

In addition to senior living, Mom’s New Pad can help you with downsizing to a small, single story home, learn about ADU’s and tiny homes, or explore living with family.

WILL I HAVE TO SIGN ANYTHING FROM MOM'S NEW PAD TO HELP ME?

Yes, we have a simple contract for you to sign that gives us permission to help you and details the services and prices. We also have an authorization form that gives other providers your permission to share sensitive information with Mom’s New Pad. We will walk you through it, and answer any of your questions thoroughly.

DO I NEED TO CALL AROUND TO DIFFERENT RETIREMENT HOMES?
No, there is no need for you to spend your time calling around different facilities only to find that they are not right for you. Let us do all the legwork for you! We have successfully placed many residents in local homes, saving our clients time and stress.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO FIND AN APPROPRIATE FACILITY AND MOVE IN?

We have found assisted living homes for many of our clients in as little as 48 hours. We’ve also had many clients that preferred to wait several months before they moved. Because of our experience, we know a great deal about many of the available facilities – and we know which places would be a match. Thus we can quickly develop a short list of senior living communities that will be the right fit for your needs. Once you have chosen the right community, you can move in quickly. Obtaining the Physician’s Report as soon as possible helps so much, so see your doctor soon and take the form with you! The Physician’s Report can be found under resources. Note: a current TB test will be required.

IF I WANT A FAMILY MEMBER OR FRIEND TO ACT ON MY BEHALF, DO I NEED ANY PAPERWORK SIGNED BY ME TO ALLOW THAT?
Yes, your attorney will help you create a Durable Power of Attorney, authorized in California, assigned to that person, and signed by you. We also highly recommend completing an Advance Health Care Directive.
I'M MOVING TO ANOTHER STATE. CAN YOU STILL HELP ME?
Of course. We have partners in many areas of the U.S. that can help you find senior living options where you are going. We can also help you decide when to move, then help you prepare for moving and selling your house in the San Francisco Bay Area.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET STARTED?
That’s simple! Just call us or schedule a complimentary appointment! We will get to know you and determine how we can help. That is our sole purpose and desire.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I MOVE MY PARENT SOMEWHERE AND WE DON’T LIKE IT?
With the expertise from Mom’s New Pad on your side, it is unlikely that will happen. However, if it does, your loved one can be moved and a full or partial refund of community fees is frequently available. One way to prevent this, if you are concerned, is to utilize a community’s “respite care” option. This allows one to stay for 30 days as a trial period. Most communities offer this option.
WHAT IS BEING DONE ABOUT COVID-19 IN SENIOR LIVING COMMUNITIES NOW?

Many safety protocols have been implemented in senior living communities that protect residents and visitors. All communities are following the guidelines from the CDC and their respective counties. These practices still include masking and social distancing, rapid-testing for visitors upon entry, proof of vaccination and booster shots being required for all residents, staff, and visitors.
